MOUNTAIN BIKING: Volcano Trail

← NM T11NR3E17114A PDNWDWS T2 T11NR3E17114A PDNWDWS T2 Single Tracks →

Description

The trail is interesting geologically with small and large lava rock scattered throughout. There is one place on the Vulcan Volcano (northern) where a bit of walking to the saddle may be required. The goat heads may get you - so be prepared. Also, there is no escape from the sun out here, so ride early or late. http://www.nps.gov/petr/

The trails are all connected, and can be ridden as a large figure-8 starting either direction. Stay off the access roads to have more fun. Take two trips around the three volcanoes to make it more meaningful.

Directions

Take I-40 to the far west side of town and exit at Paseo de Volcan. Head north for about 5 miles to the well marked Petroglyph National Monument and turn right. Park just off Volcan or head into the park 1/4 mile for close-in parking
